Veranda Ministries and The Veranda were born due to the generosity of the late Julia A. Ellis of Nashville, Tenn. The relationship between Ms. Julia and Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly grew well beyond typical client and caregiver. A unique bond of friendship developed between the two. Although her body's physical condition prohibited independence, Ms. Julia's mind remained sharp as a tack. One would never question her level of intelligence -- and Heaven help those who dared try! In addition their daily talks about life, family, church and the Lord, many conversations often focused on the perception of senior adults, their purpose in society and helping seniors age with dignity. Those deep conversations evolved into "The Project," the two ladies' dream that paved the way for The Veranda, Veranda Ministries ... and Ms. Julia's living legacy.
